Berlin Study Trip:
Shrinking Spaces of Solidarity?
German Development Policy in a Shifting World
A study trip offered by STUBE Rheinland-Pfalz/ Saarland and the CampusGemeinde Kaiserslautern

Recent upheavals in international and national politics have had huge implications for development cooperation. Funding cuts by important donor countries, the establishment of new donor countries, and a more overt repositioning of development policy to serve national security interests mean that work in the field is changing. In the seminar “Shrinking Spaces of Solidarity? German Development Policy in a Shifting World”, we take a closer look at the challenges these changes bring. We ask ourselves how we can nonetheless engage in development cooperation that is rooted in genuine solidarity.
On the study trip, you will have the opportunity to meet and discuss these topics with people who are professionally active in development cooperation. We will critically engage with the focus areas, mechanisms and impact of German development policy from the perspective of state institutions as well as civil society groups.
